I construct images that incorporate the interjection of the human figure into unusual spaces and materials. By manipulating the perception of figure-ground within a picture to flatten the picture frame, I draw attention to the photograph as a two dimensional surface. Found objects play an important role in the image making process; I often collect surfaces that have a tactile quality. Advertisements from newspapers and magazines have become the backdrop for my photographic constructions. Such advertisements of glamorous fashion models, to high end automobiles already aim to project a level of ideal reality that is unreal in it of itself. I subvert such standards of ideal by staging human collages in which I combine fragments of the human form onto various Advertisements. In this way, I recycle these bits of found imagery to have a new sinister context.
